Columbia Museum of Art
The Columbia Museum of Art opened in 1950 and has offered Columbia residents and visitors great national and international art as well as local art. During the year, temporary exhibitions can be seen on a rotating basis in several galleries. The museum's diverse collection of American and European paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings, and decorative arts provide a range of works from ancient times to the present. Governor's Mansion
This house was built in 1855 as an officers' quarters for Arsenal Academy. When General Sherman swept through town, this was the only building on the academy grounds left standing. South Carolina governors have lived here since 1868. Visitors get to see the state dining room, the private drawing rooms, and the library, each furnished with antiques, mostly 19th century. South Carolina State Museum
The State Museum is housed in what was once the world's first all-electric textile mill.
