The Darlington Raceway attracted over 25,000 fans at the opening race, the Southern 500, in 1950. The track, nick-named "Too Tough to Tame", has had numerous NASCAR racers including Petty and Earnhardt, cross the finish line over the years. It's considered the "original superspeedway".
